GRAND FALLS CASINO
SHARON + SCOTT
The wedding of Sharon Hasselhoff and Scott Watson at Grand Falls Casino & Golf Resort was more than a celebration, it was a heartfelt collaboration that reflected the couple’s humor, creativity, and close-knit circle of friends.
“I met Scott online,” Sharon says. “His profile picture didn’t stand out, but he was funny and we had so much in common, especially our families and love of sports.” Their first date at Morrie’s in Sioux Falls on December 17th, 2023, became memorable when Scott realized he had forgotten his cash. “It was a little stressful, but we had a great conversation,” Sharon recalls. “When he asked for a second date, I said yes.”
By January, they were officially dating, and soon after took Scott’s sons to an Iowa State Kansas basketball game in Ames. “He’s a Jayhawk. I’m a Cyclone,” Sharon jokes. That spring, Scott and the boys moved in. A basement flood pushed everyone upstairs, and Sharon laughs, “Nothing like a little natural disaster to bring people together.”
On their one year anniversary, Scott proposed at Tumea & Sons in Des Moines, one of Sharon’s favorite restaurants. “He put the ring on the table and said, ‘I’m not getting down on one knee,’ then slipped it on my finger,” Sharon remembers. “I asked, ‘Are you going to ask me to marry you?’ and he got flustered. It was cute and real, which is why I love him.”
The next day, Cindi Johnson, group sales manager at Grand Falls, noticed Sharon’s glow. Sharon had already begun forming her dream team, including longtime friends and colleagues Troy Reineke of Riverside Casino & Golf Resort and Barb Homanberg, former spa manager at Grand Falls. Sharon had worked with Troy nearly 20 years earlier during Riverside’s opening and immediately wanted him involved. “Sharon knows what she wants and builds a team with kindness,” Troy says. He quickly joined forces with the Grand Falls crew to help create a meaningful, personal celebration.
Grand Falls was Sharon’s first choice for a venue, with its scenic falls, bridge, and tenth tee views. “I always loved watching weddings from the balcony, thinking how gorgeous it all was,” she says. Her vision blended rustic elegance with a blue ombré palette. Troy arrived with a truck full of props from Riverside, from farmhouse tables to baskets and a mobile bar. “Sharon’s style is bring it all and we’ll figure it out. It’s chaotic in the best way,” Troy laughs.
The layout reflected intention. “I didn’t want straight buffet lines,” Sharon explains. Instead, she and Troy arranged the buffet tables into an S shape representing Sharon and Scott. The head table formed an X as a nod to hugs and kisses. “It wasn’t just pretty, it meant something.”
The week of the wedding, the flowers arrived, and Sharon was the first one to the truck. Bridesmaids, moms, nieces, nephews, Troy, and Barb all pitched in to arrange centerpieces. Cindi managed the logistics and kept everything on track. “Cindi is a rock star,” Sharon says.
Nature added its own beauty on the wedding day. “The falls, the lake, and the bridge were a cinematic part of the wedding,” Troy says. One standout moment was the couple’s dog, Harry, walking down the aisle in a tiny tuxedo and chain. “He sat perfectly still, and the picture of all of us on the bridge is adorable,” Sharon says.
The reception was lively with the bridal party arriving in golf carts, charcuterie cups, buffet dinner, signature drinks, sliders, and a live band that kept the energy high. The night wrapped with the Grand Falls Anniversary fireworks show.
The celebration continued the next day with a 90 person golf outing complete with custom tees and prizes. “It felt like summer camp for grown ups,” Sharon says.

Guests loved the resort atmosphere. Many enjoyed the spa, pool, and amenities without leaving the property. “It was like a mini vacation,” Sharon explains.
For the whole team, the wedding was something special. “Sharon trusted us completely, and that speaks volumes,” Troy says. “Grand Falls is a dream venue. It’s flexible, beautiful, and the staff is top notch.”
“It wasn’t just a wedding, but a weekend of love,” Sharon adds. “Every detail and every moment mattered. Grand Falls wasn’t just the venue, it was the heartbeat of our weekend.”
